Mikhail Myasnikovich is a new prime minister of Belarus country
Mikhail Myasnikovich elected as new prime minister of Belarus, the presidential press service said on Tuesday (28/12/2010). Myasnikovich, until recently served as Chairman of the National Academy of Sciences, replacing Sergei Sidorsky whose government resigned following the national elections on December 19, with Alexander Lukashenko as president of the fourthe country .
Lukashenko also chose Vladimir Semashko (first deputy prime minister) as deputy prime minister, besides Anatoly Tozik, Valery Ivanov and Alexander Kalinin as deputy prime minister was another. Belarusian Central Election Commission officially announced earlier that President Alexander Lukashenko won the presidential elections on 19 December.
Based on the results of the final calculation of votes, Lukashenko won 79.65 percent of the vote, while its nearest competitor Andrei Sannikov got 2.43 percent. "The elections are recognized as legitimate. Alexander Lukashenko is elected as the President of Belarus," the commission said in a statement.
The official inauguration ceremony will be held on January 4, said Lidya Yermoshina, who heads the Central Election Commission. However, he said, that date has not been confirmed by the office of the presidency.
Lukashenko (56) has ruled Belarus with an iron rod since 1994 and has been dubbed by the United States as "Europe's last dictator"for the ban on opposition and dissent. International observers said the election was "flawed".
More than 600 people were arrested in the capital of Belarus in a police crackdown against demonstrators after the presidential election which the opposition said were rigged it.
